DESCRIPTION RATINGS & REVIEWS PRESCRIPTION GUIDE

The Eddie Bauer EB32016 eyeglasses deliver practical, everyday style rooted in the brand's outdoor heritage. These men's rectangle prescription eyeglasses feature full-rim acetate frames in a versatile 53mm lens width—a medium fit that works for most face sizes without overwhelming smaller features.

Built from durable acetate, the EB32016 offers real advantages over basic plastic frames. Acetate is more flexible and resistant to breakage, holds its shape better over time, and is hypoallergenic for sensitive skin. The material accepts adjustments easily, so your optician can dial in a custom fit. Available in three color options—classic black, warm brown tortoise, and distinctive olive green with contrast temples—each colorway pairs a tortoise or solid front with coordinating temple arms.

The 53-16-140 sizing (53mm lens width, 16mm bridge, 140mm temples) suits a range of face shapes. Rectangle frames like these add structure and definition to round or oval faces, balancing softer features with clean, angular lines. The full-rim construction provides a sturdy foundation for prescription lenses, including progressives and higher prescriptions, while the single-bridge design keeps the look streamlined.

"Light plastic frame that fit my thinner face. These are some of the only glasses I've found that I really like the fit of." — Designer Optics customer

These frames are prescription-ready and compatible with single vision, bifocal, and progressive lenses. The acetate construction keeps them lightweight for all-day wear—ideal if you're moving between the office, errands, and outdoor activities. Eddie Bauer eyewear reflects the brand's commitment to quality and durability, values established since 1920. The EB32016 is a solid choice for men seeking dependable, no-fuss eyeglasses that won't need constant adjustment.

Glasses are fine - Unsurprising quality

I found DesignerOptics after seeing a set of frames I liked in Costco and doing some online shopping. I decided to give these guys a shot as their pricing was significantly less than the in-store quote I received at Costco. Upon placing the order I received a confirmation email with an order number and a note indicating most glasses ship within 5 days. I checked the status of the order regularly. No updates were made to the order information for about 10 days. I called customer service to request an update and was informed that the lenses did not pass quality inspection and needed to be remade, ultimately causing the delay in shipment.

Shortly thereafter, I received an email notifying me that the glasses had shipped. I received the glasses in about 4 days which was good.

The prescription is spot-on, no issues there. The lenses feel like they may not be cut well for fitment within the frame. The lenses creak and crack when handled and they feel like a light push will unseat them from the frame. I'm not especially hard on my glasses so I'm not too worried about them breaking, but I am slightly nervous to clean them aggressively due to the apparent quality concerns.

Overall, I'd say I'm satisfied. Like with most things, you get what you pay for and in this case, I paid a small amount for a normally expensive purchase so I feel ok with the finished product being slightly flimsy. Will I use this company again? Probably not.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size face do the Eddie Bauer EB32016 eyeglasses fit?

The EB32016 has a 53mm lens width, 16mm bridge, and 140mm temples (53-16-140), which is considered a medium size suitable for most men. Customer reviews specifically mention these frames fit well on thinner faces without looking oversized, while the 53mm lens width provides adequate coverage for average to slightly narrower face widths.

Are Eddie Bauer EB32016 frames prescription-ready?

Yes, the EB32016 frames are fully prescription-ready and compatible with all lens types including single vision, bifocal, and progressive lenses. The full-rim acetate construction provides a sturdy foundation that can accommodate higher prescriptions and various lens treatments like anti-reflective coatings and blue light filtering.

What is the difference between acetate and regular plastic frames?

Acetate frames like the EB32016 are more durable, flexible, and resistant to breakage than standard plastic frames. Acetate is hypoallergenic, holds embedded colors that won't fade, and can be professionally adjusted for a custom fit. It's also plant-based (derived from wood pulp and cotton) rather than petroleum-based, making it a more premium material.

What face shapes work best with rectangle eyeglasses?

Rectangle frames like the EB32016 work best for round, oval, and heart-shaped faces. The angular shape adds structure and definition to softer facial features, helping to balance proportions. Rectangle frames create contrast by widening the appearance of the face and drawing emphasis to the eyes and cheekbones.

How durable are Eddie Bauer EB32016 eyeglasses?

Customer reviews indicate good durability, with one repeat buyer noting they're on their fifth pair of Eddie Bauer frames and only replace them when their prescription changes. The acetate construction is more resistant to pressure and bending than standard plastic, and the lightweight design reduces stress on the frame during daily wear.

What colors are available for the Eddie Bauer EB32016?

The EB32016 is available in three color options: Black (BK), Brown tortoise (BR), and Green with olive temples (GN). Each colorway features a full-rim acetate front with coordinating temple arms, offering versatile options for different style preferences and skin tones.

Eddie Bauer EB32016 vs. Similar Rectangle Frames

If you're considering the Eddie Bauer EB32016, you may also want to compare it to other rectangle frames in the same collection. Here's how the EB32016 stacks up against its siblings:

EB32016 vs. EB32017: Nearly Identical Sizing

The Eddie Bauer EB32017 is the closest match, with a 54-17-140 size compared to the EB32016's 53-16-140. The difference is minimal—just 1mm wider lenses and a 1mm wider bridge. The EB32017 comes in Black, Brown, and Navy, while the EB32016 offers Black, Brown, and a distinctive Green option. If you prefer navy tones or need a slightly wider bridge, the EB32017 is worth considering. Otherwise, the EB32016's green colorway and slightly more compact fit make it ideal for thinner faces.

EB32016 vs. EB32038: Medium vs. Large

The Eddie Bauer EB32038 steps up to a 56-16-141 size—3mm wider lenses and 1mm longer temples. This makes it a better choice for broader faces or anyone who finds the EB32016 too small. The EB32038 is available in Black, Blue, and Grey, offering cooler tones compared to the EB32016's warmer palette. The trade-off is a higher price ($93.68 vs. $80.75) and a larger overall footprint that may overwhelm smaller features.

EB32016 vs. EB32037: Medium vs. Extra Large

The Eddie Bauer EB32037 is the largest option at 57-16-141, with 4mm wider lenses than the EB32016. This is a significant size jump, making the EB32037 ideal for men with wider faces who need maximum coverage. It's available in Blue, Green, and Tortoise—offering a green option like the EB32016 but in a larger frame. At $93.68, it's also the most expensive of the group. Choose the EB32037 if you consistently find 53mm frames too small; stick with the EB32016 if you prefer a more compact, lightweight feel.

Why Choose the EB32016?

The EB32016 is the best choice if you have a thinner or average-width face, prefer a lighter frame, and want the most affordable option in this Eddie Bauer rectangle lineup. Its 53mm lens width is versatile enough for most wearers, and the green color option sets it apart from the other models. Customer reviews consistently praise its comfortable fit and lightweight feel—making it a solid everyday frame at an excellent price point.
